Noble Tomato Malachite Box

In lessons, botanists said that the solanine contained in the green fruits of tomatoes and potatoes is poisonous. But over time, the axioms that seemed unshakable were also revised. For example, the pulp of a tomato Malachite box is emerald green. This is a perplexing fact, since its taste is ripe, rich and pleasant.

The history of growing tomato varieties Malachite box

Vladimir Nikolaevich Dederko is known as the author of successful Siberian varieties of tomatoes grown in open ground or in greenhouses. Tomato Malachite box was presented to them at the end of 2004. Tomatoes with flesh of an unusual green color could be considered New Year's fun if they weren't so tasty. In 2006, the variety was included in the State Register and approved for cultivation in all regions of the Russian Federation. It turned out to be interesting for gardeners in the Baltics, Ukraine and other neighboring countries.

Tomato variety with a fabulous name and unexpectedly sweet pulp

Description of the variety of tomatoes Malachite box

It is a plant with an indeterminate type. Bushes, depending on growing conditions, can stretch even more than 2 m, therefore they need to be formed and supported. Plants need to be tied up - the massive fruits of the Malachite Box break the shoots.

The leaves are large, dark green colored. The inflorescence is simple, the first raceme is formed over 9–10 leaves. The rest are located every 3 sheets. The fruits are flat-rounded, smooth, with a thin skin, which is easily removed from mature tomatoes. Unripe tomatoes are light green with a darker spot at the stalk. The color of ripe tomatoes is yellowish. The pulp is emerald green, juicy, the walls are thick, the number of seed chambers is more than four. The weight of one fruit is 250-300 g, but this is not the limit, specimens are not uncommon and more massive.

Tomato variety Malachite box surprises with the size and weight of the fruit

The variety is salad. The fruits are sweet, pleasant, and are eaten fresh. They can be used in vegetable mixes during harvesting. Tasters recognized the taste as good and excellent. Only the tender skin of the fruit does not allow transporting them. Summer residents with experience in cultivating the Malachite Box tomato variety do not recommend storing it: the tomatoes become watery and tasteless.

Characteristics of the variety of tomatoes Malachite box

This is a medium-ripening variety. But the fruits have time to ripen and the output of marketable products reaches 97%, and in conditions of unpredictable weather and a short summer in the Novosibirsk region, up to 75%. It is not recommended to overexpose the fruits on the bush: the taste worsens, they may crack. In addition, it has been noticed that if ripe tomatoes are removed in a timely manner, the rest of the tomatoes begin to pour and ripen faster.

The main problem of beginners in cultivating this variety: determining the timing of fruit picking, since unripe tomatoes do not yet have the desired fullness and harmony of taste, and overripe ones become watery. However, once you taste the tomatoes, the variety quickly becomes a favorite.

The variety is quite resistant to low temperatures and heat. Its yield when grown in the open field reaches 4.3 kg / m2... In the comfortable conditions of a greenhouse or under a film cover, it is about 15 kg / m2... The originator does not report anything about the sensitivity to pathogens, so it is better to prevent possible damage.

Unlike early tomato varieties, mid-ripening ones are in a more vulnerable position relative to late blight, so you need to try to prevent its development. The first condition for planting in open ground: choose a sunny area. Another requirement is predecessors. Tomato can be grown after pumpkin, cabbage, green crops and root crops. It is not worth cultivating it on lands fertilized with fresh manure and rich in nitrogenous compounds, and, of course, after nightshade crops.

Growing varieties of tomatoes Malachite box

It is believed that green tomatoes are more dietary, as they do not cause an allergic reaction like tomatoes with red or orange fruits.

Tomato variety Malachite Box has an original color, which determines the low allergenicity of the fruit

Tomato variety Malachite box is grown in seedlings. The process is not complicated. Since this is a full-fledged variety, not a hybrid, you can get seedlings from your own seeds, they do not lose germination for 3-4 years.

Stages of work:

  1. 2 months before the expected planting date, the seeds are soaked in a solution of a growth stimulator (Epin, Zircon) until they hatch.
  2. The nutrient soil is thoroughly mixed with humus and vermiculite in a ratio of 2: 2: 1. Fill the seedling cassettes tightly with the soil mixture, leaving about 2 cm to the top edge. Spill the soil with Fitosporin solution.
  3. Place 1-2 seeds in a container, add another 1 cm of soil, pull tightly with a plastic wrap on top and leave in a warm place at a temperature of 26-28 aboutFrom to germination.
  4. With the appearance of the first leaves, the film is removed, the cassettes are transferred to a lighted place. The room temperature is lowered to 18 aboutFROM.
  5. Plants are watered moderately, if necessary, illuminated with phytolamps.
  6. Two weeks before disembarkation, the seedlings are hardened with cold air.

Plants are planted in open ground in mid-May, when the weather is more stable and there is no threat of frost. In heated greenhouses, planting dates do not depend on the weather. On an area of 1 m2 place no more than three plants. 200-250 g of wood ash, 30 g of superphosphate mixed with fertile soil are added to the planting hole. Together with the seedlings, a planting stake is placed here and tied up so as not to injure the roots of the tomato later.

After planting, the plants are abundantly watered and mulched with freshly cut grass or straw. It is recommended to keep the bush in two stems. With the appearance of the first brush, the leaves under it are removed, and all formed stepchildren are also removed.

Tomato bushes varieties Malachite box need stable support

Further care comes down to regular watering, weeding and keeping the soil loose. For normal development, the roots need not only moisture, but also air. To prevent late blight, the bushes are periodically etched with a 1% solution of copper sulfate or Bordeaux liquid. During the growing season, treatments are repeated 3-4 times.

For myself, I discovered an excellent way to prevent late blight, using alternate spraying with solutions of soda, potassium permanganate and iodine. At first it seems troublesome, but then you get used to it, especially when you see the results. The first treatment with iodine (10 drops per 10 liters of water). It should be started 1-2 weeks after planting seedlings in the ground. A week later, spray with a weak solution of potassium permanganate (crystals must first be diluted in a small container, then add the rest of the water). After another 7-8 days, spray a soda solution on the bushes (2 tablespoons of soda per 10 liters of water). Over the summer, such treatments must be repeated 3-4 times. The good thing about the method is that no toxic chemicals are used.

Tomato variety Malachite box as a whole does not require much care, but gives large fruits of original color and pleasant taste.

Testimonials

It might seem like there is a mistake in the title of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. But after getting to know this variety, you perceive information differently. Green, juicy, tender tomatoes of the Malachite Box variety are eaten fresh, fried and canned. The film, however, is about something else ...

I continue to talk about the tomatoes that I was able to grow in my backyard.

The variety "Tomato Queen" attracted me with the name and picture on the package.

I bought one bag for trial and did not regret it.

There are not many seeds in the package, but their germination is good. After sowing, I noticed the first shoots in a week. This variety grows quickly, after a month and a half the bushes are ready to move to a greenhouse or into open ground.

I grow tomatoes in a greenhouse, I plant them not very thickly. The queen is tall, forming three stems. After 1.5-2 months, tomatoes begin to bear fruit abundantly and yield a harvest all season.

The yield is high, the fruits are pleasing in appearance and weight. Tomatoes are large, beautiful, when ripe they turn yellow with small red blotches, they are the same color inside. Tomatoes are poured well, the average weight is 400-700 grams.

The tomato queen is delicious, juicy, meaty and aromatic. The skin is not very thick. This variety of tomatoes is well suited for salads, they can be used in some preparations for the winter, in which it is necessary to chop tomatoes. This variety has good keeping quality, so the tomatoes can lie down and wait for your appetite.

It bears fruit for a long time, generously, so you will not stay hungry, and treat your friends with such a beautiful tomato.

If you want to surprise your family and friends, I advise you to pay attention to the varieties of tomatoes "Malachite Box" and "Tlacolula".

Tomatoes "Andreevsky Surprise" - I collect 8 kg per square meter.

Description of the tomato variety Minister, its characteristics and productivity

The Tomato Minister ranks high in the State Register of Varietal Crops. It is considered one of the best representatives for cultivation in open ground and under film shelters in Russia.

Characteristic

These tomatoes have an attractive appearance. Fruits are of the same size, rounded and slightly ribbed. Vines near bushes are about 60 cm long. This is a determinant variety.

The foliage is dark green. As a rule, the formation of the first ovary occurs above 7–8 leaves, and the next ones are located every 2 leaves. Although there are few lateral shoots of this tomato, they have to be pinned periodically.

The beginning of ripening of tomatoes planted in open beds falls on 112-115 days, and in a greenhouse this time is reduced by several days. Each brush forms up to 5–6 tomatoes. Their average weight is up to 200 g. Ripening begins 60–65 days after planting in the ground.

When ripe, tomatoes acquire a red-orange color. The dense skin makes them easy to transport. The shelf life of fresh tomatoes is 2 weeks. They have a juicy pulp, good taste and aroma. About 9 kg of tomatoes can be harvested from 1 m2 Minister. The positive side of the variety is considered disease resistance.

Tomato variety Minister is intended for fresh use, and can also be used for the preparation of canned food, sauces and pasta.

This description will not be complete without specifying the peculiarity of the Minister variety, which is that an increase in the palatability of tomatoes can be achieved by fermentation during storage at room temperature without access to light. To do this, they are laid out in small boxes and left for 7-10 days.

Advantages and disadvantages

Many gardeners are constantly planting minister tomatoes on their plots. Pros of the variety:

  • good yield
  • excellent presentation of fruits
  • ability to resist disease
  • universal use of fruits
  • unpretentiousness to growing conditions
  • the possibility of obtaining a harvest both in greenhouse conditions and in open beds.

Although the reviews about these tomatoes are mostly positive, they also have a drawback - in areas with a cold climate of the northern regions, growing them outdoors is impractical.

The highest yields of these tomatoes are obtained by gardeners in the North Caucasus, southern Ukraine and Krasnodar Territory.

Growing rules

These tomatoes are medium early. Planting in beds is carried out by seedlings at the age of 45–55 days. The plant should have 7-8 true leaves. It is preferable to use light soils with sufficient nutrients. Humus, wood ash and river sand are added to heavy soil.

The seedlings that are planted should be strong, without an overly elongated stem. To prevent the plant from stretching, additional illumination with lamps is carried out. Daylight hours should be 10-12 hours a day. For maximum yield, leave 1–2 stems per adult plant. Stepsons must be cut off in a timely manner.

Top dressing is carried out several times per season. Watering is carried out at the root, and after the top layer of the soil dries up, it must be loosened.

To prevent diseases and fungal infections, the soil around the bushes is mulched. For the same purpose, before the formation of ovaries, plants are sprayed with chemicals. From folk remedies, you can use copper sulfate, wood ash or soapy water.

To protect the tomato bushes from the appearance of late blight, the greenhouse must be ventilated, and the plants are planted at such a distance that the bushes have free access to air and light.

Testimonials

Victor, 44 years old, Bratsk: “Having planted the Minister tomato in my greenhouse, I was satisfied with this variety. Fruiting began early, after 2 months, and continued until autumn. Brown tomatoes were ripening on a shelf in the pantry. Next year, I will also definitely plant tomatoes of this variety. I recommend everyone to grow this variety on their plots. "

Growing rules

Experienced gardeners recommend not planting seeds directly into the ground, because they may not have time to grow before the cold weather and turn into fruit-bearing bushes. As with most cases, it is recommended that you first grow your seedlings.

Growing seedlings

  1. Seed material and soil must be treated with a solution of potassium permanganate or boiling water. It is enough for the seeds to lie for about half an hour in the liquid. Subsequently, a bush grown from such a seed will be healthy and resistant to infections and viruses.
  2. Sow seeds no earlier than a few months before planting in open ground. During this time, the plant must gain useful and nutritious substances in order to have the strength to develop and bear fruit later.
  3. The substrate can be purchased ready-made, or you can compose it yourself. In this case, you must adhere to some rules.
  4. Be sure to add at least 1 part of humus for the nutritional value of the soil. If the soil is heavy or clayey, then add 1 part of peat and river sand, you can vermiculite.
  5. The soil should be light, loose, air and moisture permeable.

How to prepare seeds

If you purchased them ready-made, then you can safely sow them. But in the case when the seed was harvested on their own, then the process of rejection must be carried out.

Stir in a 5% saline solution and dip the seeds into it. Those that come up can be safely thrown away. The rest are ready to board. Pre-soak them in a growth stimulant: Epin or aloe juice will do.

Planting seeds

  • Pour a drainage layer into the container, for which use expanded clay or eggshells. Next, add the required amount of soil mixture.
  • Make shallow grooves and place the seeds with an interval of at least 2 cm. Keep a distance of 3-4 cm between the rows.
  • Bury the seed to a depth of 1 cm. Moisten the soil well, but only by irrigation, so that the seed does not go deep into the soil.
  • Cover the container with plastic on top and place it in a well-lit place. The air temperature should be at least 23 - 25 degrees Celsius.
  • Ventilate the container regularly and remember to moisten the soil. As soon as shoots appear, remove the shelter.

Picking

Some gardeners do not waste time on this, but immediately plant the seeds in separate cups or pots. But if you are a novice vegetable grower, then it is advisable to do everything according to the rules.

  1. When 3 - 5 independent adult leaves appear on the shoots, then for the further formation of the root system it is necessary to plant them in separate containers.
  2. Carefully remove the seedlings, and transplant them to a new place along with the pieces of soil. The soil should also be fertile and light, with a drainage layer at the bottom.
  3. The transplanted shoots can already be fed. Purchase special fertilizers from your garden supply store. You can add some wood ash.
  4. Do not overfeed the plant, otherwise the seedlings will begin to stretch out, will grow, which will not affect the amount of the crop later.
  5. The main thing is to loosen the soil so that the right amount of oxygen flows to the root system of the plant.
  6. Watering is carried out as the top layer dries out so that there is no drying out, but do not allow dampness either.

As soon as the weather is warm outside, the seedlings can be taken out into the fresh air, that is, hardened. From day to day, gradually increase the amount of time the Senets spend on the street.

Planting seedlings in open ground

  1. Make sure night frosts do not return. Depending on the region, the planting period falls in the second half of May.
  2. Prepare the site in advance. Free from debris and weeds. Dig up and apply fertilizers, moisten the soil well.
  3. Plant the seedlings in the evening so that they have time to rise during the night. It is recommended to plant only 2 bushes per 1 m2. Tie them up immediately and moisten the soil well. Carry out the next watering in 3 days.

Features of growing, planting and care

We recommend sowing the seeds of this tomato for seedlings 60-65 days before the intended planting in the ground. Dive - at the stage of two true leaves. When planting seedlings to a permanent place of 1 sq. m of the site is recommended to place up to 6 plants. Landing scheme: 70 x 30 - 40 cm.

Further care for tomatoes consists of timely watering, removing weeds, dressing and preventive measures to protect the crop from diseases and pests.

If you have grown Grushovka tomatoes, please write whether you like them or not. What was the yield and taste of the fruit in your climatic conditions? Will you grow this variety again and recommend it to others? If possible, attach a photo of the entire bush or individual fruits that you have grown. Thank you!

Your reviews about the Grushovka tomato, as well as additions to the description, will help many gardeners evaluate this variety objectively and decide whether it is worth planting it or not.

A medium-sized, mid-ripening variety of green-brown color, when ripe it gets a yellowish tint. Very sweet. Large-fruited (the weight of one tomato is up to four hundred grams). It is characterized by high resistance to diseases and parasites.

Salting green tomatoes for the winter is a simple matter and practically no different from salting red tomatoes. The main thing is to remember: green tomatoes need constant coolness, and their shelf life can be increased by using a branch of bird cherry in brine. There are many ways to pickle tomatoes, such as cold.

Cold pickling green tomatoes for the winter is easy. For a kilogram of fruit, you need two large tablespoons of salt, a couple of dill umbrellas, six cloves of garlic, horseradish and black currant leaves - three to four each, as well as black and allspice.

Tomatoes must be thoroughly washed, dried, and the stalk removed. Peel the garlic, wash the herbs and partially put them in a previously sterilized jar. Place half of the available fruits on top, then the garlic and the second part of the herbs, and then the remaining tomatoes. Put the salt in cold water and pour the jar up to the neck. Close with plastic lid, store in a cool place.

"Orange King of the Market 13 F1" or "Golden King"

Renamed orange, and number 13 of the excellent Golden King hybrid, which since 2010 has been pleasing vegetable growers with its wonderful fruits.

The tomato is included in the register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation under the number 8954018.

Originator and applicant of the variety LLC "Agrotechnological firm" Agros "Novosibirsk district, village Izdrevaya Russia.

The tomato is recommended for cultivation in all regions of the Russian Federation in film shelters and unheated greenhouses of personal subsidiary farms of vegetable growers.

Orange King of the market 13, or rather the "Golden King" is a hybrid of salad designation, medium ripening period.

The plant is undersized, determinate.

The leaf blade makes the hybrid recognizable as it has a very light green color. Novice vegetable growers, not understanding the intricacies of the hybrid, believe that the leaf indicates a lack of nitrogen, and begin enhanced feeding, but these are just biological features.

The fruit of the hybrid is heart-shaped. During the ripening period, the tomato keeps a green spot for a long time at the base of the stalk. As the biological ripeness increases, the stain disappears and the fruit turns yellow.

Weak ribbing adorns the "golden king". In terms of density, the tomato is medium, has 6, and sometimes more, nests filled with pulp.

Tomatoes are leveled, weighing about 200 g, with a good marketable yield.

The tomato has a balanced taste. The tasters' rating is "good", but vegetable growers note the taste of the fruit as "excellent".

It should be noted that the variety is not very "promoted", but meanwhile, the one who raised it once noted:

  • high yield
  • long, extended fruiting
  • excellent disease resistance
  • high taste.

Having planted “Golden King” tomatoes in the garden and having experienced all the delights of a hybrid, vegetable growers are surprised why this “gold” is not yet in demand by the broad masses, and this tomato deserves its name “tomatoes are the king of the market”.

Some vegetable growers compare the Golden King with the King of Siberia hybrid. However, the "King of Siberia" is not in the register, and he is of unknown origin, and he is presented as indeterminate, tall, and the "Golden King" does not exceed 80 cm, which greatly simplifies care.

Description of hybrid tomato Azure giant f1, reviews and features

Hybrid tomato Azure giant f1 reviews are consistently commendable. This variety was created by Russian scientists specifically for growing in greenhouse conditions.

In the warm climate prevailing in the southern latitudes, tomatoes can also be planted outdoors. However, in this case, the manufacturer does not guarantee that the fruit will have the characteristics indicated on the package.

Provided proper care and watering, the plant will delight farmers with exotic fruits of unusual color and impressive size.

User reviews

“I read the description of the variety Lazurny Giant F1 and got interested. I planted 20 bushes in the greenhouse in the spring. The harvest pleased me: I gathered 8-9 kg from a bush, and the largest tomato weighed 620 g. Everyone was surprised by the unusual color of the fruit. They ate them raw, canned them, let them juice - everything was very tasty. Now I will plant constantly ”.

“I decided to grow the Azure Giant this summer and did not regret it. The harvest was very decent: up to 25 kg per square. The family also approved of the taste of fresh tomatoes. It turned out to be rich and bright. All summer they ate fresh tomatoes, and part of the harvest was set aside for the winter in the basement. "

“I planted tomatoes in open ground. The fruits ripened large and tasty, while the promised purple or chocolate color was not there. But I do not regret it, as the harvest was large. And the tomatoes themselves went well for salads, spins and juices. "
