A tomato variety with an interesting and intriguing name "Bonsai" was brought out by domestic breeders from the seed company "Gavrish" in the late 90s. This agrofirm is famous for developing ornamental tomato varieties for indoor cultivation. Bonsai was one of the first scientific experiments that quickly took root among amateur vegetable growers. After several years of successful cultivation of the variety, Bonsai was finally entered into the State Register (in 2001). Since then, it has been grown on a larger scale.

Bonsai has become a godsend for those who were eager to grow a vegetable at home due to various circumstances. Soon there were even varieties of this variety, which differ in size. So, for example, the hybrid "Bonsai-micro F1" grows only up to 20 centimeters. However, their short stature does not affect the yield. These varieties bear abundant fruit.


Planting and leaving

The main requirement that must be adhered to when choosing a place for growing this variety is sufficient penetration of sunlight. It will be good if the veranda or loggia is on the sunny side.

Before planting the seeds, the soil is spilled with warm water for several days. It is better to purchase a special soil for growing tomatoes. Watered exclusively with water at room temperature. It is poured sparingly, so as not to create swampiness, but the surface soil layer should always be damp. The frequency is determined depending on the appearance of the plants: elastic and bright green leaves indicate an abundance of moisture, drooping and withered ones - about a lack.

2 weeks after settling, nitrogen-containing fertilizers are applied in separate containers: ammonium nitrate (4 g per 1 liter of water). Repeat after 10 days, but with a solution of potassium sulfate prepared in the same ratio. After waiting 12-14 days, feed with superphosphate again.

Bonsai tomato does not need shaping, pinning and garter. But during the flowering period, it is recommended to pinch the lateral stems of the tomatoes in order to slow down the expansion in breadth.

Bonsai tomatoes are endowed with a fairly strong immunity, but subject to growth in mild climates. They get sick mainly due to inappropriate care:
